Melody Thornton

Melody Thornton (born 28th September 1984) is from Phoenix, Arizona, USA.

Melody was born to a Mexican mother and an African-American father. Her talent was first discovered at an elementary school talent show when she sang "Without You" by Mariah Carey. She is best known as the strong, powerful voice and sparkling personality of The Pussycat Dolls. She has the highest vocal range out of the Pussycat Dolls members and sings soprano background vocals.

Melody has collaborated with rapper Jibbs in the song "Go Too Far" which can be found in his debut album Jibbs feat. Jibbs.

She has stated on several interviews for fans to keep an ear out for her music. In an interview at the Cabanna Club in Hollywood, she confirmed that she has been recording and writing songs for her solo efforts. Thornton recently stated on an interview with Chilosagirl that she would like to have a few Spanish-language songs to show her linguistic heritage and to get her learning her Mexican background. During the Doll's break she worked on number of different projects. She was one of the panelists of the show Bank of Hollywood. She made a cameo on Keri Hilson's, music video "Slow Dance" and appeared in two songs of Timbaland's second album Shock Value II. In an interview for The Source (Magazine) she said her songs will be different from the group’s sound but she's not going to abandon that pop demographic that she acquired through the Pussycat Dolls.

But it’s not popular-for-the-moment, the kind of music that I’m making. It’s live instrumentation and it derives from ‘60s influences. It’s just kind of what I was raised on, James Brown, BB King-ish as far as instrumentation goes. But vocally, I admire Mariah Carey and was raised on Aretha Franklin, Jackson 5 and all of that, so it’s not going to be like Pussycat Dolls at all.

Thornton is best known for her melismatic vocal runs, ad-libs and falsetto registrated harmonies. Despite her vocal talent, Thornton had not received any formal vocal training before auditioning for the group, and is the only current member to have never received any formal dancing training before being accepted into the group. While Nicole Scherzinger contributed most of the group's lead vocals on the first album, PCD, Thornton also added prominent vocals to many tracks, mostly in the form of background melismas. With Carmit Bachar's departure from the group, Thornton performed "Fever" and "Hey Big Spender" alone during live concerts in the PCD-related tours and live sets.
